Matthew 1:19-21 Joseph, to whom she was engaged, was a righteous man and did not want to disgrace her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement quietly. As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. “Joseph, son of David,” the angel said, “do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit. And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”
There are two things I want you to notice from this passage today:
God will guide you if you are open to being led. Notice, God spoke to Joseph in the dream. The Scriptures say that God speaks to those who are in his flock (John 10:27). If you are a child of God, God wants to guide your steps today. Like Joseph, you must be open to listening to His voice.
Christ’s primary purpose on earth was to save His people from their sins. Jesus’ mission was to pay the price for your mistakes and bad choices. Never forget that salvation is free, but it wasn’t cheap. Jesus paid a high price to save you. He died in your place. The child in the manger was headed for the cross.
Here is a suggested application. Write down one thing and then do one thing today:
Write down one area about which you need Jesus to speak to you and guide your steps this week.
2. Tell Him thank you for dying for you and saving you from your sins by taking communion. Go get a little bit of wine or juice and some crackers and eat and drink, thanking Jesus for His sacrifice for you!
