Philippians 2:6-8 Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.
When Jesus was born and placed in the manger on Christmas Day, He was giving up His rights to control the universe. He was God, but when He became a human, He was not laying there thinking God thoughts in the manger. He was not laying there thinking, “I am the ultimate cosmic power controlling the universe, from inside a tiny baby.” No! He was laying in the manger thinking baby thoughts. Goo goo, gaga, etc.
Pastor Eric, why are you telling me this? Because I want you to understand that Jesus gave up His divine privileges to be with YOU. He was God, and He had everything except you. And so He came to earth to be with you out of love. He gave up everything - like a royal prince giving up the crown and all its privileges - to be with the ones He loves. This is Jesus’ love for you.
Today, will you love Him back?
Take a second and write out a prayer of commitment, telling Jesus that you love Him, that you are thankful for Him, and that you will serve Him in whichever ways He needs.
